Post-Offer Testing for New Hires

Keg comparison picture.jpgAfter completing a job analysis of a particular job title, Job Ready develops a job specific test that represents the physical demands required to perform the essential functions of that job.  At the post offer stage of employment, before being placed on the job, candidates are hired contingent on them completing the test successfully.

The test consists of:

  • Medical interview of past medical history, including past work comp claims and injuries
  • Cardiovascular status, including recovery condition, risk profile, blood pressure, and heart rate.
  • Musculoskeletal evaluation (head to toe) including assessments of range of motion, strength, posture, and joint integrity, performed by a Physical or Occupational Therapist.
  • Lifting test for evaluation of the strength of the back and extremities, with analysis for deficits and/or abnormalities, and with resultant comparative analysis to our database containing information from over 1 million employees tested.
  • Risk profile for "over-use" syndrome (i.e. carpal tunnel syndrome).
Job Specific or job simulation components (essential functions) includes instruction in proper body mechanics and lifting techniques
  • Baseline medical information including pre-existing conditions, strength, flexibility and range of motion status is kept in a database for possible future use should the employee experience an injury. This information can be provided to healthcare providers to ensure appropriate treatment as well as apportionment for any claims filed that may have a pre-existing component.

But, it doesn't stop there...

Of significant importance is the relationship between the employer and Job Ready after the Employment Test, as Job Ready continues to work with the employers to assist them with the ADA and related employer/employee issues. Workplace training to prevent musculoskeletal injuries on the job; Fit for Duty testing, injury management consultations, ergonomic assessments, and annual reviews are also provided to employers to assist them in continuing to reduce their costs and enhancing their wellness programs.

Staying legally compliant is a priority for both WorkSTEPS and Job Ready. Federal employment laws are constantly monitored and appropriate changes are made to the testing program in order to continue to ensure legal compliance.

Types of Tests Available:

TYPE OF TEST OR SERVICE DESCRIPTION
Pre-Offer Agility Test A 30-minute test that measures a candidate’s job capability in order to match their performance with the essential functions of the job. No medical information can be collected for this test. (NOTE: This limits the employer’s ability to identify persons who have pre-existing conditions that put them at imminent risk of injury.)
Post-Offer Basic Tes A 45-minute test that has a limited number of medical measurements, maximum effort lifting, and essential functions tests. Given pass or fail to meet ONLY essential function strength, motion, and etc.
Post-Offer Comprehensive Test This is a 1.5 to 2 hour test. Medical questions and several medical tests are included to objectively quantify pre-existing conditions and cumulative traumas to determine their effect upon “significant and impending” risk as it relates to the position in question. (NOTE:  This is the best value for employers because pre-existing information is identified and documented as well as the employee’s ability to perform the required job tasks safely.)
Post-Employment Fit For Duty This is a 1.5 to 2 hour test administered to existing employees under several circumstances specifically addressed in the EEOC/ADA Technical Assistance Manual. The test may be administered on a voluntary basis, at specific intervals scheduled by the employer, or on an individual basis if the employee demonstrates “evidence of problems related to job performance or safety”(TAM V1-12). This test is used to classify employees according to risk and then implement prevention strategies to lower susceptibility to injury. Work conditioning, accommodations, and other options are made available to the employer based upon results.
Carpal Tunnel Test This test takes approximately 30 minutes to administer as part of either the Post-Offer/Pre-Placement Comprehensive Test or the Post-Employment/Fit For Duty Test. It is used to determine capability as it relates to job function.
It gives pass or fail for medical risk criteria.
Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) The FCE is a medical test to measure an employee’s function post-injury. The WorkSTEPS FCE is designed to follow the same pre-injury test protocols of the employment test to compare baseline data, document existing impairments, prove consistency, and create realistic objective treatment goals and return to work recommendations. The WorkSTEPS FCE is also automated and includes criteria to evaluate symptom magnification, inappropriate illness behavior, and validity of performance.
