Brian Caveney Brian Caveney is a Clinical Associate in Environmental and Occupational Medicine at Duke University and is board certified in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. He is the primary faculty advisor at Duke for residents and fellows in Occupational Medicine. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from UNC; a joint medicine and law degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine and has worked in Occupational Medicine for employers such as IBM, AW of North Carolina, Quintiles and Talecris. He has had numerous publications and has presented at many conferences and seminars across the state of NC, as well as Washington, DC and Florida.
George Pender graduated summa cum laude from Appalachian State University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, having majored in insurance and real estate. He received a Juris Doctor degree from Campbell University School of Law in 1991. His primary practice areas are complex insurance and bad faith issues, defense of insurance agents, brokers and dealers, products and general liability cases and workers' compensation. He is a member of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association and the Wake County Bar Association. George is also an active member of Defense Research Institute's Insurance Law Committee. He regularly attends the annual Insurance Coverage and Claims Institute Seminar in Chicago and the Insurance Coverage Practice Seminar in New York. In 2008, he was named by Triangle Business Leader as one of the Top Lawyers in Trial/Litigation.
Lindee Greer graduated with honors from the Odessa College Physical Therapist Assistant Program in 1992. She has over fourteen years of clinical experience with Odessa Physical Therapy in outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation and occupational medicine, including extensive performance of the WorkSTEPS® employment testing and FCE protocols. She has been a guest lecturer for the Texas Tech School of Medicine regarding occupational medicine issues. For the past seven years she has conducted training sessions across the country, instructing other physical therapy professionals in objective job analysis and employment testing techniques, and in May of 2001 she was named the Director of Training for WorkSTEPS, Inc. She is certified through the Back School of Atlanta as a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist.
Paul H. Derrick is a Partner in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, office of Jackson Lewis LLP, where he is the Litigation Manager. Mr. Derrick has practiced labor and employment law for 20 years and has represented numerous health care employers, including local physician practices, assisted living communities, specialty hospitals, and systems with multiple acute care facilities. He began his legal career as a trial attorney with the National Labor Relations Board.
Rick McAtee is an employment law attorney and managing partner with Jackson Lewis in Cary, NC. Mr. McAtee spends the majority of his working time on employment litigation, including non-compete litigation and injunction hearings. He has defended numerous employment discrimination cases, obtaining favorable judgments for employers in virtually every industry. He is experienced in evaluating, managing and defending individual and multiple-plaintiff lawsuits. He will be speaking on the legalities of testing employees prior to placement as well as the legalities of testing temporary and other contingent employees.
George Ports is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and began his career in the human resources field in 1974. He has been on the staff of Capital Associated Industries since 1983. George’s diverse background in the human resources and employment law arenas have enabled him to provide valuable assistance to CAI members in areas such as the following:
• Guidance on dealing with sensitive/difficult employee relations issues
• Counsel regarding government regulations affecting the employment relationship
• Government Relations and Public Policy
• Advice concerning positive employee relations practices
• Human Resources & Leadership Development
Jennie Maness is a graduate of the School of Physical Therapy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and is licensed as a physical therapist in N.C. She founded and co-owned a private physical therapy outpatient practice in High Point and Asheboro for 20 years, specializing in industrial rehabilitation and the management of worker’s compensation injuries. In 2004 she founded WorkSmart Solutions to assist employers in prevention and management of work-related musculoskeletal injuries. She has extensive experience in functional job analysis, ergonomic risk analysis, injury prevention training, functional employment testing, and Functional Capacity Evaluations. She is a licensed provider of the WorkSTEPS Functional Employment Testing Program and is a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist (CEAS) through the Back School of Atlanta.
